Participating in the Professional Community
What is component 4D?
The job of schools is to create an environment the encourages student growth. To do this, educators need to be working as a team to plan lessons, share strategies, and create plans to meet specific students' needs. Teachers are responsible for making school a professional community. They should collaborate with colleagues, strategize together, and hold one another accountable. Teaching should not viewed merely as a job, but there is also responsibilities that go beyond the classroom. Teachers can show this through helping plan curriculum, involvement with the parent-teacher organization, or taking leadership of academic and extracurricular activities.
Why do you need it?
By working with colleagues to create a professional community focused on student growth, schools are better able to meet the needs of students.
