Professional Responsibilities
Teaching is so much more than just planning and teaching lessons. Teachers need to continue growing their knowledge of pedagogy, content, and students. The needs of their students should be top priority, and it is important to express this through connecting with families, keeping information organized, and to be constantly reflecting and improving. Teachers should also utilize opportunities that allow for professional growth, as to better serve students.
These components are different ways that educators can be meeting the needs of their students and the school community. Student learning is important, and teachers can show this through how their handle student records, interact with families, and are involved in the school. Being a teacher goes far beyond the classroom, and teachers can earn respect through showing this. They can lead a club, coach a sport, or become involved in the parent-teacher organization. Also, the field of education is constantly changing, and teachers need to continue to grow their knowledge best in order to provide students with the best learning experience possible.
My virtual co-op teacher has showed me a variety of ways to continue to develop as a professional educator. She frequently attends education conferences to learn about what is new in teaching. She has also continues to take college courses to learn more about teaching and content. She has been teaching for many years, and has had to adjust to the increase in technology in school. This has called for a lot of learning, but she has discovered many new ways to integrate technology in the classroom to meet the needs of student and increase engagement. She also has an active presence on Twitter, where she gets ideas from fellow educators.
